Butterworth Filter Design
Butterworth filter design was done on Scilab software. We were asked different values of stopband, passband and sampling frequencies for both HPF and LPF. The attenuations in passband and stopband were to be kept in the range; Ap < 3dB and As > 40dB. These values decided the order of the filter and also plotted its magnitude spectrum. The butterworth filter has no ripple in pass band and stop band. Also the order of the filter obtained was high.
butterworth filter is better compared to chebyshev filter as it does not have ripple in pass band
ReplyDeleteChebyshev is a practical filter and easy to implement as order is less
DeleteYes its better in terms of Magnitude response but still due to its higher order its implementation might be time consuming. However DSP processors due to their high speed are capable enough for its realization.
DeleteDigital Butterworth filter is implemented from its analog counterpart. But, higher order analog Butterworth implementation is difficult. Hence, digital filters are used.

ReplyDeleteButterworth filter is also called maximally flat magnitude filter
